‘Avengers: Endgame’ Closing In On ‘Avatar’ For Worldwide Box Office Record

Avengers Endgame Avatar

Avengers: Endgame continues to inch closer and closer on its quest to pass Avatar for the highest grossing film of all-time.

The superhero tentpole film earned another $2.8 million last weekend. Right now, the movie currently stands tall with $2.780 billion at the worldwide box office. This means it’s only $7.16 million away from surpassing Avatar and gaining the all-time record of $2.788 billion. Avatar has stayed on top of the charts for almost ten years. While this certainly has been an impressive feat for the box office juggernaut, it’s looking more and more likely that Avatar‘s reign as the box office king is about to come to an end.

Avengers: Endgame wasn’t the only movie that Marvel Studios had in theaters this weekend. The 22nd movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe might have also raised its ticket sales with the help of Spider-Man: Far From Home, which just capped off its second straight weekend of box office supremacy. The new film starring Tom Holland as the title web-slinger crushed its competition, beating new releases such as Paramount’s alligator thriller Crawl and Disney’s R-rated cop comedy Stuber. The latest Spider-Man film has now grossed $847 million worldwide.

Here’s the official synopsis for Avengers: Endgame:

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”
