Avengers: Endgame cut an entire sequence from the incredible final battle against Thanos and his army.
It was the fight that fans across the world had literally been waiting years for: the Avengers versus Thanos and his impressive army. It had some truly mind-blowing sequences, from Captain America wielding Mjolnir to the all-female Avengers team-up with the Stark Gauntlet. But according to Sean Gunn, there was an entire aerial battle sequence that didn’t make the final cut. Given that Kraglin is a fan-favourite side character in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, it’s a shame that he didn’t get more of an appearance in Avengers: Endgame.
It’s understandable why the Russo Brothers and Kevin Feige needed to keep things tight when it came to the dramatic climax of Avengers: Endgame, only focusing on the key characters that came across Thanos on the battlefield. But it would have been great to see what some of the smaller characters were up to in the fight, like Howard the Duck or more importantly, Kraglin. When speaking to ScreenRant, Sean Gunn revealed more details on what the cut battle-sequence might have looked like if it had remained in the film.
“All I can tell you is really what we shot. Obviously, some of the fragment footage was cut from the final battle for good reason. From a narrative standpoint, they didn’t want to cut to the Battle of the Sky, which makes sense, but I all I can say is that Kraglin was wearing his fin. He had the Yaka arrow on him, but it was sheathed and remained sheathed. So, I think all of that qualifies as canon, and the rest of it is up to anyone to speculate on that one.”
