While Avengers: Endgame was bound to have surprises galore, it’s unlikely anyone could’ve anticipated where Chris Hemsworth’s portrayal as Thor would take his character throughout the film.

SPOILERS FOR AVENGERS: ENDGAME BELOW

From body by the Gods to the body by Dominios, the directors of Avengers: Endgame took a surprising direction for Chris Hemsworth as Thor after losing to Thanos. But Thor’s journey was very different in earlier drafts of the film. Avengers: Endgame writers, Markus and McFeely spoke with Fandango about the different versions of Thor’s story in the film.

“Our first draft was a version where Tony and Thor go to Asgard, because I like the idea of Tony going, like, in theory going to Asgard and seeing science versus magic, and stuff like that. And then he fought Heimdall, who could of course see him even though Tony had an invisible stealth suit on or something. We may have at one time had Dark World Thor catch sight of Endgame Thor and go, you know, “What the hell happened?” But it got too complex and it distracted from things.”

This draft ended up being less appealing than having the Battle of New York as a better backdrop for a large chunk of the time heist, which also allowed for Cap and Tony to spend more time together on screen and dive into their character arcs more. As for Thor meeting Thor, it seems like Cap v Cap was enough from that concept for one film.

Rumors of Chris Hemsworth renegotiating his contract with Marvel could mean more than just seeing Thor going the Guardians in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. What do you think of Thor post Avengers: Endgame? Let us know in the comments down below!

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”
