During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo debunked earlier rumors of Quicksilver and Justin Hammer’s return.

Avengers: Endgame concluded the first decade worth of MCU stories and several key characters from previous Marvel Studios projects were assembled for the final chapter of the Infinity Saga. However, while the film featured an impressive list of former allies and foes, not everyone was present for the long-awaited Marvel Studios epic.

Among those who were absent from Avengers: Endgame were Quicksilver and Justin Hammer, who had been rumored to make an appearance of the film long before the film it theaters. However, Anthony and Joe Russo revealed that Quicksilver and Justin Hammer was never a part of the plan for Avengers: Endgame, explaining they wanted to focus on core elements of the story:

“Our struggle with on this movie was just to deal with… there was so much on the table. We were always petrified of not doing service to, like, the stuff was was mote central to the narrative. So, that was really what we had to focus on at the end of the day.”

Quicksilver was last seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron, in which he heroically lost his life shielding Hawkeye and an innocent civilian from a rain of bullets. On the other hand, Justin Hammer was briefly seen in the Marvel One-Shot film All Hail the King, which showed the villainous genius in prison following the events of Iron Man 2.
