Avengers: Endgame‘s home release is set to include a number of behind the scenes goodies which apparently includes Robert Downey Jr’s original Iron Man screen test!
The video in question comes to us early, courtesy of Fandango. In it, the cast and crew of Iron Man talked about the casting of Robert Downey Jr in the first film. They speak at length about how they knew Robert Downey Jr was the right choice and suggested screen tests to convince the higherups of it. The screen tests of Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, shockingly enough, aren’t all that different from what ended up in the final film. It show’s one of Iron Man’s early monologues regarding his sales of weapons with a performance that is on par with what ended up on the big screen.
Later on in the video, Robert Downey Jr himself speaks about the test and admits that he did not know if he would get the part or crash and burn. As it had turned out, after the screen test the producers knew that no one else could play this role but Robert Downey Jr. And thus, comic book movie history was made with Iron Man.
