‘Avengers: Infinity War’: Scrapped Scene Involving Don Cheadle’s War Machine Revealed

An unused scene from Avengers: Infinity War shows Don Cheadle’s War Machine remotely fighting Proxima Midnight in Edinburgh.

Concept art from Avengers: Infinity War reveals an unused scene showing Don Cheadle’s War Machine getting involved in the fight with Proxima Midnight and Ebony Maw in Edinburgh. Fans will remember that the scene didn’t include War Machine or the Hulkbuster, as the Avengers hadn’t been put back together at this point after Captain America: Civil War. However, Avengers: Infinity War concept artist Phil Saunders revealed that the heroes were originally intended to help defend Vision and Scarlet Witch from the Black Order.

Saunders posted the concept art of Don Cheadle’s War Machine fighting Proxima Midnight remotely on Instagram and explained that since Rhodey was still suffering from PTSD following Civil War, he could only pilot the suit remotely. The artist also explained that since the unused Avengers: Infinity War scene was essentially a rerun of a similar moment in Iron Man 3, he’s glad that it didn’t make it into the film. Take a look at the art of War Machine fighting Proxima Midnight below.

Another scene that didn’t make it into Avengers: Infinity War. Rhodey and Bruce Banner in Hulkbuster were initially planned to be part of the Edinburgh battle. Rhodey, still suffering PTSD from the crash in Civil War would have been piloting War Machine remotely. Kind of a repeat of the IM3 scene so glad it wasn’t used, but would have given Rhodey a deeper story arc. Fun to design the gimbal rig though. Hulkbuster, Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive models used in the image are the work of @joshnizzi.art, @jsmarantz and @adamwross, and @jsmarantz and @ianjoynerart respectively. #avengers #avengersinfinitywar #mcu #warmachine #ironman #conceptart #marvel #marvelstudios #hulkbuster
