During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo discussed how Thanos’ snap affects Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Avengers: Endgame concluded with our heroes successfully retrieving the Infinity Stones from the past and harnessing their power to bring back everyone who was lost in Thanos’ decimation. However, their victory occurred five years after Thanos snapped his fingers and erased half of the population in the universe, which raised some questions about the timeline of Spider-Man: Far From Home.
While trailers for the next Spider-Man film indicated all of Peter Parker’s classmates were still in high school, the five-year time jump in Avengers: Endgame would suggest a few of them would have graduated by now. However, Endgame director Joe Russo confirmed that Peter Parker and Ned were both killed in Thanos decimation and their reunion scene marked their first meeting since the event:
“So… Ned disappeared as well. That’s the two of them seeing each other for the first time after having disappeared.”
Joe Russo explained it was possible for everyone in Peter Parker’s social group to be among the vanished while others moved on:
“There could be kids who are now much older than them and no longer in high school. But Ned and he both disappeared and are returning in that moment.”

Endgame will serve as both a follow up to Avengers: Infinity War as well as the conclusion to the 22 films that came before it, which have now been dubbed as the Infinity Saga by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, before Marvel kicks off Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Spider-Man: Far From Home in July.
