New ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Theory Suggests Thanos Will Try To Destroy The Infinity Stones

A new Avengers: Endgame theory suggests Thanos will try to destroy the Infinity Stones early on in the film.

The first official clip for Avengers: Endgame revealed some of the surviving heroes of Infinity War locating Thanos after detecting an energy reading, which appeared after the Mad Titan seemingly used the Infinity Stones again. Why Thanos used the Infinity Stones again remains a mystery and while some have proposed he used the Soul Stone to contact Gamora, Reddit user solethprime proposes the Mad Titan is actually trying to destroy the items in order to prevent anyone from undoing his decimation:

The best evidence I can find for this comes from a new TV spot, but of course it’s just voiceover and could theoretically be in any scene. In this ad, the first thing Thanos says is, “The work is done. I won.” followed by, “What I’m about to do, I’m going to enjoy it, very, very much” Thanos no longer needs the stones, and that energy surge could be him experimenting with ways to get rid of them for good. When the Avengers arrive, he’ll scold them for coming back (like in the special look) and explain how he’s it’s already too late for them to reverse the snap. That’s where the line about him “enjoying this” will come from. He’ll either destroy the stones right in front of them and a battle will start, destroy them right before being killed by one of the Avengers (which would lead to time-travel shenanigans), or he’ll wreck them in battle and then destroy the stones. Any of these outcomes would force them to regroup and figure out a new plan to undo everything Thanos has done.

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo,  Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.

Avengers: Endgame will be released in theaters on April 26, 2019.
