‘Avengers: Endgame’ Almost Had The Time Stone Retrieved In A Different Way

Avengers: Endgame writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely revealed one of the originals ideas they had for how the Time Stone would be retrieved.

After Thanos destroyed the Infinity Stones, the Avengers initially believed they had no way of reversing the Mad Titan’s decimation until Scott Lang returned from the Quantum Realm and offered a means of retrieving the stones from the past. Splitting into four groups, our heroes traveled to different points in the history of the MCU to collect the stones and bring them to the present, but the writers of Endgame conceived several ways of retrieving the items that were ultimately scrapped.

In the final version of Avengers: Endgame, the Time Stone was retrieved after the Hulk managed to convince the Ancient One to give it to him during the Battle of New York. However, writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely told Canada.com the initial idea was to have some characters being pursued by the odd things trapped in the Sanctum Santorum while trying to collect the stone:

“At one point, we had a different way of getting to the Time Stone which involved some characters breaking into (Doctor Strange’s) Sanctum Sanctorum and being pursued by all the weird stuff that happens to be trapped inside there. It was totally off story and unnecessary and it got cut, but it was fun to write.”

Would you have enjoyed seeing this scene on screen or was it a better idea to have Tilda Swinton’s The Ancient One return hand it over to the Hulk? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
