The subtitle for Avengers: Endgame was mentioned in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Age of Ultron has been one of the more polarizing films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but it holds some very important moments for the titular superhero team and their future. Fans have been speculating about the title of the next Avengers film for quite a while and one of the common theories was that it would be called Endgame. The trailer for the film finally dropped this morning and it turns out that those fans were correct.
Not only does Endgame come up in a very important moment during Infinity War, but it’s also mentioned in Age of Ultron. When Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is being criticized by his fellow teammates for secretly creating a deadly AI with the aid of the Mind Stone, in hopes that it would help protect the world when Earth’s Mightiest Heroes couldn’t, Tony reminds them about what the endgame is. Check out the moment below.
This brief moment in Age of Ultron isn’t just important to Endgame simply because it drops the title. It’s important because the moment as a whole is there to remind the Avengers why they’re there. Not just to protect the people of Earth from themselves, but to protect them from even greater threats, that Tony has seen up-close and personal, that could destroy their entire world.
