Avengers: Infinity War writers Christopher Markus and Steven McFeely originally planned for Captain America to continue his romance with Sharon Carter.
While the romance between Sharon Carter and Steve Rogers was an interesting point that was introduced in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and elaborated on in Captain America: Civil War, it seems like it was forgotten in the last two Avengers movies. As fans know, Sharon was notably absent in Infinity War as well as its follow-up, Endgame. However, Infinity War almost featured the return of Sharon.
During a recent interview with Yahoo, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely revealed that early drafts of Avengers: Infinity War had Captain America and Sharon Carter living together. However, the idea was scrapped by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.
Stephen McFeely: We tried to sew up all sorts of things. We had first drafts where Steve was living with Sharon Carter and it wasn’t going very well.
Christopher Markus: And those are the moments where Kevin [Feige] comes in and goes, ‘What the hell are you doing?’
While the idea sounds interesting, most fans agree that Steve ending up with Peggy was the best conclusion to his story-arc. Additionally many Marvel fans have since been very creeped out with the nature of their relationship considering Sharon Carter is the niece of Peggy. But considering the storyline was cut, it seems the romantic arc between the two has come to an end.
Although the arc between Sharon and Steve is over, Sharon Carter fans can expect see the character return in the upcoming Falcon and Winter Soldier series on the Disney+ streaming service. Emily Van Camp, who plays Sharon Carter, was recently announced to be in talks for the six-episode series along with Captain America Civil War co-star Daniel Brhul, who plays Baron Zemo.
