‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Concept Art Reveals Alternate Cull Obsidian Weapons

Avengers Infinity War Cull Obsidian

Black Order member Cull Obsidian had to go through a few different armors and weapon variants for his first big screen appearance in Avengers: Infinity War.

When Thanos’ Black Order arrived in Avengers: Infinity War, they came with a few changes from what fans know them to be in the comics. One of the biggest changes came with Cull Obsidian, who has a completely different name in the comics. In the Infinity book, from writer Jonathan Hickman, Cull Obsidian was known as Black Dwarf. Much like in Avengers: Infinity War, Black Dwarf primarily fought in Wakanda during the Infinity story before retreating, as opposed to dying as he did in the film.

The character did die at some point though, at the hands of Ronan the Accuser, the villain of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, before he was eventually resurrected. Although the design of Cull Obsidian and his weapons are pretty accurate to what was in the comics, the character still had to go through a few different visual changes before battling it out with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes on the big screen. Take a look at the Reddit post below to see the changes that Marvel’s creative team had to make to bring Cull Obsidian to life.

Though the character doesn’t speak in the film, Cull Obsidian’s motion capture was done by Terry Notary, who has famously worked on comic book films as far back as X2: X-Men United and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Though Obsidian seemingly met his end in Avengers: Infinity War, many fans have speculated that Ebony Maw could still be brought back in some way, similarly to how Red Skull made his return in Infinity War. Sadly though, no return for either of the characters has been announced by Marvel just yet.
