‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Directors Tease New Character

Marvel Cinematic Universe’s success of Captain America: Civil War has fans craving more from the Avengers and what we can expect in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo are teasing a new character introduction coming to Avengers: Infinity War.

While promoting the release of Captain America: Civil War Blu-ray/DVD, the Russo Brothers told Yahoo!Movies that the third installment of the Avengers could add another superhero to the mix.

When asked about casting Anna Kendrick as Squirrel Girl, the brothers left the door open for the possibility of a new character joining the Infinity War ensemble. The directors stated they have their “hands full trying to tell the story we have with our preexisting characters” in Avengers: Infinity War. “Anthony would probably die from exhaustion if we introduced another character,” Joe said. Anthony teased, “That’s not to say we’re not going to introduce a new character.”

Could this be the much-anticipated addition of Captain Marvel to the MCU?  Asked by Yahoo! about the likelihood of seeing Captain Marvel in Infinity War, Anthony joked, “If they ever cast that role, maybe.”(Clearly a joke as Brie Larson was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in one of the best Hall H panels I have ever seen, props to the MCU.) He then added, “That’s one we’re going to have to plead the fifth on.”

Brie Larson, who is set to bring the character of Captain Marvel to life, debuts in the character’s solo film in 2019. Even if we do not see her don the iconic superhero suit we could possibly see her introduced first in Avengers: Infinity War as pre-superhero USAF officer Carol Danvers to lay the groundwork of her origin story which will be tackled in the solo film.

Captain America: Civil War hits Digital HD on Sept. 2 and Blu-ray, DVD and On-Demand Sept. 13.

Avengers: Infinity War will be released May 4, 2018.
