Kevin Smith has shared an hour long review of Avengers: Infinity War for his fans on Facebook live.

Kevin Smith stands as a bastion of pop culture for nerds, and as such, his reviews of the latest comic book movies are always sought after by fans. Smith was completely moved by Infinity War, exclaiming his overwhelming support for the Marvel film:

“I loved the Avengers: Infinity War. It goes without saying, I’m in the bag for these Marvel movies of course, but this was a stunning achievement.”

The film’s visual effects were the subject of most of Smith’s adoration, complimenting the realism that was achieved by the VFX team:

“This film was epic, epic in the way old Hollywood movies used to be epic … and that’s tough to say in a digital age ’cause … it’s really hard to get that epic feel going because ever since the Lord of the Rings movies we know that like all of those … bodies coming over a hill, a bunch of orcs and s*** like that, they ain’t real. That’s a bunch of persons [sic] in a room with computers … creating a look and it’s fascinating to look at, but now the audience is so trained for digital and CGI that very little ever truly feels epic. Not Infinity WarInfinity War felt large.”

Smith also commended the narrative of the Avengers film, acknowledging the massive undertaking that helming a film of this caliber would entail:

“You could tell they put the money up on the screen and also they did something that very few people could ever do, man. Since they had a bunch of movies basically telling singular stories leading up to this big event you could trust that the audience understood things that were happening, details about characters and about relationships from all the previous movies.”

It is clear that audiences worldwide share this sentiment as the Avengers film has broken the record for fastest film to gross $1 billion.

Avengers: Infinity War is now playing in theaters, with a cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautisa, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Rudd, Benedict Wong, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Benicio Del Toro, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor and Josh Brolin. Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.

The currently-untitled Avengers 4 features a cast made up of many of the key players in Infinity War — alongside newcomers like Brie Larson and Evangeline Lilly — and is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2019.
