Avengers: Infinity War is shaping up to be one of the biggest superhero movies ever made, and a good portion of that owes itself to the fact that it will have a massive cast of major characters (with rumors suggesting that over 60 could be involved). Director Joe Russo hinted at which characters the movie will focus on.

ScreenRant recently got a short interview with Russo at the San Diego Comic Con, asking him if the rumors that there were more than five dozen characters in the movie. While he wouldn’t explicitly confirm the rumors, he did note that the story will focus on the most important characters in the setting:

“You know, the story really centers who you would expect it to center around, so our more important characters. This is a culmination film ten years in the making and we are pulling the main story threads from all of the different franchises into one unifying narrative. So any of the important characters are going to be in this film and they are going to have something important to do in the movie.”

Curiously, there have been some suggestions that some of the supporting characters who don’t lead their own franchises will be getting a greater amount of screen time here. It will be intriguing to see how Russo and his brother Anthony manage to balance a massive cast, although the longer running time will probably work in their favor.

Avengers: Infinity War will be released on May 4, 2018, and has a cast that includes Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark (Iron Man), Chris Evans as Steve Rogers (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth as Thor Odinson, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner (Hulk), Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton (Hawkeye), Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch), Paul Bettany as the Vision, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautisa as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Vin Diesel as Groot, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Stephen Strange, Tom Holland as Peter Parker (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier), Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa (Black Panther), Paul Rudd as Scott Lang (Ant-Man/Giant Man), Samuel L.
