‘The Eternals’ Star Barry Keoghan Joins The Cast Of Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’

The Eternals star Barry Keoghan has officially joined the cast of Matt Reeves' The Batman!

The cast of Matt Reeves’ The Batman continues to grow with the addition of The Eternals star Barry Keoghan.

A Warner Bros. press release has revealed that The Eternals star Barry Keoghan has joined the cast of The Batman, the highly-anticipated DC Comics movie that’s being directed by Matt Reeves. According to the press release, Keoghan is playing a character known as “Officer Stanley Merkel.”

In the pages of DC Comics, Stanley Merkel was the original partner of Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon, played by Westworld star Jeffrey Wright in The Batman. Created by Frank Miller, Stanley made his first appearance in 1987’s Batman #405. He was killed by Sofia Falcone in the Batman: Dark Victory storyline.

Barry Keoghan is best known for his work in Christopher Nolan’s WWII epic Dunkirk and the Yorgos Lanthimos-directed psychological thriller The Killing of a Sacred Deer. The Batman reunites Keoghan with his The Killing of a Sacred Deer co-star Colin Farrell, as well as his Chernobyl co-stars Alex Ferns and Con O’Neill.

Plot details for The Batman are being kept under lock and key, but we know that the project will revolve around Robert Pattinson as a younger Bruce Wayne, chronicling Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector. The Batman will also feature the hero making use of his detective skills more than what we’ve seen before in previous iterations of the character. It is also expected to be the first installment to a new trilogy starring Pattinson as Batman.

Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, the film stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

The Batman is currently set to hit theaters on October 1, 2021. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news regarding The Eternals star Barry Keoghan and Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content.
