One of the few aspects of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to receive praise was Ben Affleck’s performance as Batman/Bruce Wayne. Following the dismal reviews for Batman v. Superman, Affleck was tapped direct the upcoming solo Batman, a relief to fans who considered him the saving grace of Dawn of Justice. However, with rumors that Affleck may no longer be willing to helm the caped crusaders solo flick, Affleck addressed these reports once again in an interview with USA Today where he explained his priorities moving forward.

One of the top challenges Affleck wants to address is the Batman suit. While nearly every actor to don the cape and cowl have expressed their discomfort while wearing the costume, Affleck’s role as the films director would present unique challenges.

“I know what it’s like to be in the suit. We’ll have to modify the suit to make it a little bit easier to put on and take off. When you are in it, you can be sweating, crazy and exhausted, do your part and walk away. But when you’re a director, you can’t walk away. You have to be there for everybody. Chief among the challenges of doing Batman, will be finding a suit that’s more comfortable.”

Affleck addressed the pressures of taking on a superhero film, explaining that is why getting the script right is essential to his decision on if he will direct the project or not.

“Superhero movies get the level of attention that is nothing like any film I’ve done. You cast the 14th lead in these movies and the Internet goes crazy. I understand and embrace that. That’s part of the pressure that comes with doing it. That’s why I am not going to do it, unless I really feel confident about it. But when that day comes, should that day come, I’m sure that’s going to be the most pressure, the most stress I have ever experienced in my professional life. There’s no doubt.”

While fans may be concerned that Affleck will drop out as the films director, this is not the first time the director has expressed his desire to nail the script. While some may be growing impatient, Affleck has assured fans getting the script right will take some time.

Affleck will next reprise his role as Batman/Bruce Wayne when Justice League is released in theaters on November 17, 2017.
