Batman’s parents were spotted running towards death once again in the new Joker trailer.
It looks like audiences are about to see the origin of Batman onscreen once again when Joker finally arrives in theaters. It’s interesting that Todd Phillips is choosing to use this as a story element considering the film is largely staying away from the typical comic book movie storytelling. That’s not to say that Batman ends up appearing in the film, but tying him so closely to the creation of the Joker feels like tempting fate. Although seeing this version of Joker against Batman would definitely be incredible, the villain would be considerably older than Bruce by the time he’s grown up.
Eagle-eyed fans noticed Thomas, Martha and Bruce Wayne leaving the theater which ultimately teases a heartbreaking end for Batman’s parents in the timeline of the new Joker film. Whether Joker himself is the one to shoot them in Crime Alley remains to be seen. Comic book fans know that it was originally Joe Chill that murdered Bruce Wayne’s parents, starting him on the path to becoming Batman. But it wouldn’t be surprising to see Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker shoot them since he’s already on a downward spiral by this point. Check out the Easter egg with Batman’s parents below.

Here is the official synopsis for Joker:
Director Todd Phillips “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.
Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.
Joker will be released in theaters on October 4, 2019.
