DC’s next animated feature is a Batman ’66 reunion, with Adam West returning as Bruce Wayne. The film sees West teaming up with stars from the show, as Burt Ward returns as Robin and Julie Newmar as Catwoman. It’s very much in the vain of the 1960’s show and the digital comic continuation. The film now has a world premiere confirmed, which takes place at NYCC.
Fans at New York Comic Con can see it between 5:30 and 7:30pm on October 6, on the main stage of the Javits Center. Given how long this series has ran, it’s bound to have a large following. The original series lasted for three seasons on ABC, and it received a big screen adaptation in 1966. A digital comic based on the show ran for two and a half years up until December last year. It gave a few more of Batman’s rogue’s gallery the ’66 treatment.
This film is set to add to that canon, but it is reuniting the main stars of the series. Penguin, Joker, Riddler and Catwoman are the villains in the animated version. It’s very clear from the tone of the trailer what to expect from the film. DC are well aware of how the show has been looked upon in the 50 years since it first aired. Expect plenty of in jokes during this special, with Adam West doing his best Adam West impression.
Not only do fans at NYCC get to see the film before anyone else, they also get to meet those who made it. Following the premiere there’s also a panel featuring West, among others. He will be joined by director Rick Morales, plus screenwriters/producers Michael Jelenic and James Tucker.
If you can’t make it to NYCC, Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders is available on digital HD on October 11. You can see it on Blu-ray and DVD on November 1.
