According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Robert Pattinson wore an old Batsuit during his screen test for Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
Robert Pattinson was officially approved for the titular role of Matt Reeves’ The Batman by Warner Bros. late last month following screen tests between the former Twilight star and Nicolas Hoult. Of course, as has become a tradition with casting for a Batman film, Robert Pattinson reportedly wore a Batsuit from a previous entry in the Caped Crusader’s film franchise during his screen test, similar to how Christian Bale wore the costume Val Kilmer donned in Batman Forever while testing for Batman Begins.
The screen tests in the old Batsuit were designed to give Warner Bros. and Matt Reeves’ an idea of how both contenders for the role would embody a character in costume. According to an insider, Matt Reeves was searching for specific answers to key questions during Robert Pattinson’s screen test:
“(Reeves) wanted very specific things. He knew what he was looking for.”
Robert Pattinson will now be fitted for his own Batsuit and begin training for the role. Production on The Batman will reportedly begin in early 2020.
Plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and features a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that reportedly includes Catwoman. The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC Films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader.
Matt Reeves’ The Batman is one of the many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. These projects include The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Cyborg, Supergirl, New Gods, and Nightwing.
The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
