Whether it is in animated shows, comic books and more, the characters of Batman and Wonder Woman have always had a connection with each other and that will also be the case with Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot’s interpretations of the characters in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which opens later this month. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Affleck was asked about how Wonder Woman comes into play with Batman in the film.
When asked about what role the famous Amazon Princess plays in the Dark Knight’s thinking as a hero, Affleck gave the following response.
โIt inspires in him the idea that well, if thereโs one of these kinds of people out there, then maybe there are in fact more. If there are more, then maybe thatโs hopeful and also terrifying to him, because then they could make humans even more powerless โ or they could serve on our side. Youโve got to remember that Batman is the worldโs greatest detective, and if he suspects that there may be more, and if he suspects in particular that Diana may be somebody special, he gets inspired.โ
He was also asked about what it was like working with Gadot as both Diana Prince and her Wonder Woman persona.
“Sheโs particularly beguiling and inspiring. Gal as an actress, I think is spectacular. Itโs an incredibly hard part to pull it off, and she pulls it off with ease and grace, and itโs also just really fun to watch. I think itโs exciting to him that sheโs out there and, ultimately, without giving too much away, he realizes that itโs not only exciting, but also necessary that he finds more of them if they are, in fact, out there.”
We also get a brief tease about the mystery of the deceased (or more like “deceased” because this is a comic book film after all) Robin whose costume has been spotted in trailers for the film and how that has affected the Caped Crusader.
“Heโs bitterly disappointed in the past that heโs lost this guy who fought by his side. That characterโs death must have been devastating to him, and heโs suffered. We get the sense that heโs suffered a lot of devastating losses before this movie even starts.”
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice comes out on March 25.
