Despite the ongoing question of the film’s role in the DC Universe going forward, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is still canon in Gal Gadot’s upcoming film, Wonder Woman 1984.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was a film that shook up Warner Bros. plans for its own DC film universe in ways that it did not expect. While the film earned well over $800M worldwide it didn’t make nearly as much money as Warner Bros. had anticipated, was savaged by critics, and drew mixed responses from audiences. The reception to 2017’s Justice League did not help matters and prompted Warner Bros to take the universe in a new direction that left the status of Batman v Superman and its characters in question. The film, however, is apparently still canon in Wonder Woman 1984.

Since the release of Justice League, the status of several of the actors and characters in the DC Universe has changed. Ben Affleck has since left the role of Batman, being replaced by Robert Pattinson. Henry Cavill has not officially left the role of Superman but rumors regarding the status of his role persist. Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, however, remains and many were wondering how her character would work in the new direction the DC Universe was taking. For the time, however, it seems that the upcoming Wonder Woman film isn’t changing a thing.

In an interview with Empire Magazine, it was confirmed that in the timeline of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 1984 would still be canon with that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice:
