Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries revealed that there won’t be a crossover with fellow Arrowverse series Supergirl next season.
One of the biggest allures of the Arrowverse is that all of its shows do eventually crossover with one another in some capacity. Most recently, the Arrowverse held its Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover, which shook the very fabric of all of its series. Of the numerous Arrowverse shows, Supergirl and Batwoman have been praised for being female-led superhero shows that don’t sacrifice any quality in any capacity. Naturally, fans have been hoping for crossovers to be consistent between the shows, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for the next season of the Arrowverse.
In a recent interview with TVLine, Batwoman showrunner was asked if Supergirl would appear in the show’s second season. Her response wasn’t as positive as fans would have expected.
“I don’t think so. The way that the Supergirl production schedule is laying out, it doesn’t really line up with ours.”
During the Batwoman season finale, the character had no choice but to ask Supergirl permission to destroy the kryptonite she had as it could pierce through the Bat-suit. Of course, this conversation was set up, so fans were wondering how the show would go about discussing it. The showrunner revealed that the series would have to “imply” it somehow.
The Arrowverse shows have had no choice but to end their seasons prematurely due to the coronavirus halting production. This change has forced the showrunners to retool how their upcoming seasons will operate, both creatively and logistically. It would have been great to have seen Supergirl pop into Batwoman’s show, but it just doesn’t seem to make any sense logistically. At the end of the day, we’ll still be getting plenty of Arrowverse crossovers, so we’ll just have to wait for those ones!
