This May, the classic series Baywatch is going to hit the silver screen in the form of an R-rated film reboot starring Dwayne Johnson. The film was originally set for release on May 19, 2017, but after Alien: Covenant was rescheduled to hit theaters that same weekend, Paramount Pictures has pushed Baywatch back a week to May 26, 2017.
Baywatch follows Lieutenant of the LA County Lifeguards Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson) and lifeguard Matt Brody (Zac Efron) as they team up to stop the villainous oil tycoon Victoria Leeds (Priyanka Chopra) who is threatening the future of the bay.
The series about lifeguards shot on location on the beaches of Santa Monica, CA which debuted in 1989 became a major hit in the 90’s. Baywatch had one of the most memorable intro themes to ever grace television and spawned the spinoff Baywatch Nights, made for TV movies, and even the copycat series Pacific Blue.
Original Baywatch stars David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson have both been confirmed to appear in the new film. Hasselhoff, the original Lieutenant of the LA County lifeguards Mitch Buchannon took to The Rock’s Instagram account to confirm himself he would indeed appear.
The latest bit of marketing released from the film is a set of motion posters that spotlights the cast. The motion posters themselves seem appropriate as they evoke a bit of a 90’s TV show intro vibe. Check them out below!
The film also stars Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Ilfenesh Hadera, Jon Bass, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Here’s the official synopsis:
Lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson) and a brash new recruit (Zac Efron) uncover a criminal plot that threatens the future of the bay.
Baywatch hits theaters May 26, 2017.
