Ben Affleck Compares His Batman To Previous Incarnations

Ever since news came out that Ben Affleck could possibly be directing his own Batman solo film, he has been hammered left and right over how the script is coming. Thankfully, Affleck finally was given a little space from these questions and instead commented on how his portrayal of Batman differs from the likes of Michael Keaton, Christian Bale and others.

“It’s different in terms of tone and, obviously, just a different actor. I think the most profound difference is that I’m playing the part at an older age than those guys were when they played it, and it’s about a guy who’s had a long life of this experience, rather than someone who’s just setting out on the journey to become this guy. He’s older and wiser, I guess. And he was pretty pissed off in Batman v Superman, but now it’s not about finding revenge in Justice League, it’s about protecting the Earth. So the feel is different.”

Ben Affleck certainly seems to believe that the main difference in his incarnation of Batman is his experience and age. Whereas Batman Begins and The Dark Knight both showed Batman within a couple years of his first donning of the cowl, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice strives to show how broken down Bruce Wayne is.

The most clear example of this Batman having serious experience is Jason Todd’s Robin costume set up as tribute in the Batcave in BvS. Suicide Squad also shed light on just how long the DCEU Batman has been in the game with the inclusion of The Joker, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc and Deadshot.

In the same interview with Cineplex, Ben Affleck also answered just how the upcoming Justice League will differ form the dark themes found in Batman v Superman.

Not much is known about The Batman, but Joe Manganiello will also be starring as Deathstroke the Terminator and it will reportedly start shooting this Spring.
