The Punisher will be the fifth Marvel series to debut on Netflix as Jon Bernthal will be starring in his own series as Frank Castle after making his debut in Daredevil Season 2. A couple of weeks ago, it was revealed that Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian) had joined the upcoming Marvel series as a series regular in a mysterious main role.
At first, it was being hinted at by TV Line that he was potentially going to be playing Bobby Saint, a “corrupt crime prodigy”. But it turns out that this isn’t who he is playing after all as TV Line revealed today that Netflix has confirmed Barnes’ character as Billy Russo, who is being described as followed.
“Billy Russo, Frank’s best friend from his days in the Special Forces. Billy runs a successful private military corporation called Anvil.”
Comic fans will recognize the name of Billy Russo as the villainous Jigsaw, who is part of both Punisher and Spider-Man’s rogues gallery.

The Punisher is now the fifth Netflix that Marvel is working on, with Luke Cage Season 1 recently released, Iron Fist set to come out on March 17, 2017, along with The Defenders featuring all the four Netflix heroes united. Both Daredevil and Jessica Jones have been renewed for new seasons that will come out sometime after The Defenders, so most likely in 2018.
