New terrifying concept art of Doctor Strange villain Dormammu shows a face off between Benedict Cumberbatch’s sorcerer supreme and the cosmic monster.

While Dormammu was defeated during the first Doctor Strange film, new concept artwork has surfaced of what the cosmic villain could have looked like in the Benedict Cumberbatch film. This new Dormammu design comes after the same artist revealed a traditionally fiery version of the villain. While Doctor Strange defeated Dormammu in the first film, it’s not impossible that he could return during Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness — especially since Benedict Cumberbatch also played the villain.

The new alternate artwork comes from concept artist Jerad S. Marantz, and although it didn’t make it into Doctor Strange, this is the artist’s favorite Dormammu design that he created for the Benedict Cumberbatch film. It blends the fiery element of Dormammu with the cosmic weirdness that Scott Derrickson brought to Doctor Strange, while also giving him a similar look to his appearance in the comics. Take a look at what Dormammu could have looked like in Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange below.

Benedict Cumberbatch is set to reprise his role in Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Directed by Scott Derrickson, the Doctor Strange sequel is said to be Marvel Studios’ first outright horror film and co-stars Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch. Rachel McAdams and Benedict Wong are also expected to return.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to hit theaters in the summer of 2021.
