Benedict Cumberbatch recently talked about how long he wants to play Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Doctor Strange has only received one solo film so far, but the character has appeared in three films total, with Spider-Man: No Way Home serving as Benedict Cumberbatch’s fourth round as the Avenger. Cumberbatch is also in the middle of doing reshoots for his fifth Marvel film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

It’s safe to say we will probably get more Doctor Strange after his sequel, but you never know what Marvel has in store, and a recasting is not uncommon either. While speaking with USA Today, Benedict Cumberbatch revealed he wants to continue playing Doctor Strange for Marvel Studios, but on one condition:

“As long as the character is interesting and challenging and doing fantastic things in the MCU, why not?”

Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will be seen next in Spider-Man: No Way Home:

For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is umasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, and Willem Dafoe.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will hit theaters on December 17, 2021, while Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set for May 6, 2022.
