Benicio Del Toro was on hand at Disney’s D23 Expo for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Speaking with Variety while in the press line, Del Toro spoke about the initial conversation he had with The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, how the script was immensely secretive (it came “with a code,” says Del Toro), and how he knew around halfway through reading it that he wanted to be a part of the film.

Del Toro will playing a character named “DJ,” but besides that there isn’t that much known about how he’ll factor into the film.
Written and directed by Johnson, The Last Jedi’s cast includes Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa, Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico, Laura Dern as Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke, Domhnall Gleeson as General Armitage Hux, Benicio Del Toro as “DJ”, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, and Jimmy Vee as R2-D2.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to be released in theaters on December 15, 2017.
