It’s been a long time coming but the man that many comic book fans consider the co-creator of the Batman mythos is finally going to get the credit that he deserves. DC Entertianment has announced today that Bill Finger, who co-created the character alongside Bob Kane as well as co-creating many other characters for the comic company, will be finally receiving credit for his work in DC & Warner Bros. upcoming film and television projects based on his creations.
Before passing away in 1974, Finger made many contributions to the Batman mythos which included the character’s alter ego, the city of Gotham and many of the supporting characters. Bob Kane had received sole official credit for the character due to the original deal that was signed in 1939 but later in life often talked about Finger being an important influence for the series’ development calling Finger “a contributing force” and even stating that “Bill never received the fame and recognition he deserved.” Last year, DC Comics released a re-issue of Batman’s first appearance to celebrate the character’s 75th anniversary which saw DC finally give Finger a cover credit for his work and today DC has gone one step further to give the creator the credit he deserves.
DC Entertainment released the following statement to The Hollywood Reporter:
