‘Birds of Prey’ Writer Teases Big Surprises In DC Spin-Off

Christina Hodson says we have a bunch of surprises waiting on us in DC Films’ Birds of Prey.

Birds of Prey is one of the most highly anticipated upcoming movies DC Films release calendar. The cast and crew has upped fan excitement to see Huntress, Black Canary and Cassandra Cain kick some ass on the big screen. Now the writer of the film is teasing something that will have fans buzzing. During an interview with ComicBookMovie, Birds of Prey writer Christina Hogson opened up about her excitement for the film.

Yeah, January. Super excited. Our cast is awesome. Most of it has leaked, so you already know who’s playing who. I’m super excited about the cast, about the characters. And it’s really fun and different and honestly, I think aside from the fact that, obviously, the studio would like me to not say anything, I think it’s fun not to say anything yet because that means there’s going to be whole bunch of fun little surprises for fans and for new people to the DC universe to discover.

Full details on the Birds of Prey plot are currently unknown, though the film will center on Huntress, Black Canary, and Harley Quinn joining forces to protect Cassandra Cain when she comes into the possession of a diamond belonging to a criminal kingpin known as Black Mask.

Directed by Cathy Yan from a script penned by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, Ewan, McGregor as Black Mask, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Ali Wong, Robert Catrini, and Michael Masini have also been cast in undisclosed roles.

Birds of Prey will be released in theaters on February 7, 2020.
