His appearance was an unexpected pleasure.

Black Bolt actor Anson Mount has finally opened up about returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for his role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Spoilers Alert For Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness was a film that played rather coy about its plot but did tease the inclusion of The Illuminati. However, outside of Patrick Stewart as Professor X and a TV Spot that showed some of its members quickly and unclearly, it wasn’t clear who made up the group. As it turned out, Inhumans star Anson Mount returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to sit on the council as Black Bolt.

Anson Mount first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Black Bolt for the short-lived Inhumans series. The series is generally considered to be the single worst thing the MCU has ever produced. Supposedly willed into existence out of Marvel’s desire to replace the X-Men with the Inhumans the show was also run by the same man who did the poorly received first season of Iron Fist. However, Mount’s unique performance remains a highlight of the series and it clearly did not go unnoticed by those in charge.

The Actor Speaks Out

In a recent post, Anson Mount finally broke his silence about returning to the MCU as Black Bolt for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, saying how grateful he was for the experience to work on the film:

Here is the synopsis for the Marvel film:

The MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

Directed by Sam Raimi from a script written by Michael Waldron, the film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stuhlbarg, Rachel McAdams, and Patrick Stewart.
