Chadwick Boseman discussed what his hopes are for Marvel Studios’ upcoming film Black Panther 2.

Marvel Studios’ Black Panther opened to record-breaking box office success and critical acclaim, ultimately becoming a pop culture phenomenon and the first superhero film to earn an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. While Chadwick Boseman’s next appearances as Black Panther were in the previous two Avengers films, fans have been clamoring to see the King of Wakanda return for a second standalone film.

At Disney’s D23 Expo this past summer, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed plans for Black Panther 2, with Chadwick Boseman set to reprise his role as King T’Challa. During an interview with MTV International, Chadwick Boseman discussed how he hopes Black Panther 2 can build upon the foundation set by the first film:

“I think, you know, hopefully we can maintain the foundation that we sort of set and build upon it and expand it and explore it. That’s what I hope. But I think first you have to maintain the foundation. We built a culture and a world, so you have to make sure that you keep that in place.”

Written and directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther 2 is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 6, 2022. In the meantime, fans can re-watch Chadwick Boseman’s first standalone outing in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther.

Marvel Studios “Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.

Directed by Ryan Coogler from a script he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Sterling K. Brown, Florence Kasumba, John Kani, with Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.

Black Panther is now available on Digitial HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD.
