According to a new rumor, Doctor Doom may be making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as the villain of the upcoming sequel, Black Panther 2.
This new rumor comes courtesy of Murphy’s Multiverse, in which Charles Murphy describes what he hears would be Doctor Doom’s arc in Black Panther 2 as an opportunity for the iconic Marvel villain to begin “expanding his empire, conquering parts of Africa and, ultimately, come into conflict with the nation of Wakanda and the Black Panther.”
Murphy stresses that everything he’s heard regarding Doctor Doom as the villain in Black Panther 2 should be considered a rumor at this point, but also speculates that Marvel Studios has big plans for the character. He writes that Kevin Feige was willing to meat with Noah Hawley, who was developing a standalone Doctor Doom movie before Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox was complete.
Plus, with Marvel Studios now owning the film rights to both X-Men and the Fantastic Four, along with a slew of new release dates for untitled projects slated from 2022-2023, some are speculating that we will be introduced to elements of these popular comic book legends earlier than expected. Perhaps Black Panther 2 will be our first official introduction to such characters with Doctor Doom serving as the main villain.
During the D23 Expo presentation back in August, Kevin Feige brought out writer/director Ryan Coogler on stage with a draft of the Black Panther 2 script, teasing some big things are afoot for the sequel to the landmark film. Perhaps it’s because we will finally be seeing Doctor Doom in the MCU facing off against one of the franchise’s headliners.
