‘Black Panther’ Nominated For Best Drama At 2019 Golden Globes

Black Panther Marvel Disney Fandango Golden Globes Oscars Best Picture

Wakanda Forever indeed. Since the film’s release in theaters earlier this year, there’s been a lot of talk about whether Walt Disney Studios would make a concerted effort to make sure Marvel Studios’ Black Panther would receive some sort of award recognition, if not nomination as well. And while the proposed Popular Film category at the Academy Awards is, as of now, a thing of the past, that won’t diminish the odds that the House of Mouse will push for Black Panther to be recognized. And as of today, as far as nominations go, it has.

See, there’s that other awards ceremony — the Golden Globes. And with nominations streaming out today after the announcement that Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh would host, it’s confirmed that Black Panther is among those nominated for the category of “Best Motion Picture – Drama.” The other films nominated in this category are BlacKkKlansmanBohemian RhapsodyIf Beale Street Could Talk, and A Star Is Born. Quite the list of heavy hitters, no doubt.

Again, with the impact both socially and financially that Black Panther has made for Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios, it’s no surprise that the film itself has still been on people’s minds well after it has left theaters. Actors such as Michael B. Jordan and Danai Gurira have spoken about the film’s potential Oscar prospects in the past. And award ceremonies like the Golden Globes or even the Screen Actors Guild often serve as barometers for what could ultimately win at the Academy Awards.

It remains to be seen how Black Panther will fare not just in this category, but also in the categories of “Best Original Song – Motion Picture” and “Best Original Score – Motion Picture.” But no doubt the one that many in fandom will focus on is the Best Motion Picture nomination. We’ll see how Wakanda ultimately does when the award ceremony airs next year on January 6th, but what do you think about Black Panther being nominated for best motion picture in the Drama category?

Does it stand a chance? Could it walk out with a win? Let us know you thoughts in the comments below.
