Wakanda Forever indeed. Since the film’s release in theaters earlier this year, there’s been a lot of talk about whether Walt Disney Studios would make a concerted effort to make sure Marvel Studios’ Black Panther would receive some sort of award recognition, if not nomination as well. And while the proposed Popular Film category at the Academy Awards is, as of now, a thing of the past, that won’t diminish the odds that the House of Mouse will push for Black Panther to be recognized. And as of today, as far as nominations go, it has.
See, there’s that other awards ceremony — the Golden Globes. And with nominations streaming out today after the announcement that Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh would host, it’s confirmed that Black Panther is among those nominated for the category of “Best Motion Picture – Drama.” The other films nominated in this category are BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, If Beale Street Could Talk, and A Star Is Born. Quite the list of heavy hitters, no doubt.
Again, with the impact both socially and financially that Black Panther has made for Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios, it’s no surprise that the film itself has still been on people’s minds well after it has left theaters. Actors such as Michael B. Jordan and Danai Gurira have spoken about the film’s potential Oscar prospects in the past. And award ceremonies like the Golden Globes or even the Screen Actors Guild often serve as barometers for what could ultimately win at the Academy Awards.
It remains to be seen how Black Panther will fare not just in this category, but also in the categories of “Best Original Song – Motion Picture” and “Best Original Score – Motion Picture.” But no doubt the one that many in fandom will focus on is the Best Motion Picture nomination. We’ll see how Wakanda ultimately does when the award ceremony airs next year on January 6th, but what do you think about Black Panther being nominated for best motion picture in the Drama category?
Does it stand a chance? Could it walk out with a win? Let us know you thoughts in the comments below.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis. The film is available now on Digital HD, 4K, Blu-Ray, and DVD.
‘Captain Marvel’ Funko Toys Confirm Carol Danvers’ Cat Will Appear
With just about four months away from the release of Captain Marvel, Funko has now revealed its upcoming line of Pop! Vinyl Figures that are tied-in to the highly-anticipated film that features Academy Award-winning actress Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, the titular heroine and perhaps the most powerful character in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The reveal of this new line of Funko Pop! Vinyl Figures show off some of the characters set to appear in the film, one of which includes Carol Danvers' feline companion Goose the Cat.
The name of our heroine's cat may come as a surprise to fans of the comics because in previous incarnations, Captain Marvel's cat is named Chewie and is actually part of the Flerken species.
You can check out two collectible Funko figures of Goose the Cat in the gallery down below. You can start viewing the images by clicking "Next".
