‘Black Panther’ Star On ‘Dragon Ball Z’ Costume Comparisons

Michael B. Jordan revealed whether or not he thinks the similarities between his costume in Black Panther and a costume from an iconic Dragon Ball Z character were intentional.

After Black Panther became a smash hit earlier this year, some fans took notice of something strange about Erik Killmonger’s (Michael B. Jordan) costume. Fans have pointed out that the armor that Killmonger wears, pictured at the top of this article, looks strikingly similar to the iconic armor worn by the character Vegeta on the anime Dragon Ball Z. If you’re unfamiliar with Vegeta, then take a look at the comparison made by a fan via Twitter below.

To promote Creed II, Jordan recently sat down with IGN to answer a few questions. Of course, one of these questions was about whether or not the similarities between Vegeta’s armor and Killmonger’s armor were made on purpose. This is what he had to say about the topic.

“Maybe? I’m not sure. Honestly, I really don’t know.”

In the video, Jordan goes on to reveal that he and Black Panther co-writer/director Ryan Coogler never talked about the armor being inspired by the Dragon Ball Z character while filming. However, Jordan did say that Coogler is a fan of anime, so it’s possible that it could be inspired by the character after all. In fact, Jordan hopes that’s the case.

“But, I mean, Ryan likes anime too, so maybe. Hopefully.”
