Black Panther will reunite audiences with the titular hero in his home nation of Wakanda and fans were given their first glimpse of the film when the teaser trailer was released last weekend. Now, The Hollywood Reporter writes that the teaser earned a total of 89 million views in the first 24 hours of its release.
The teaser was released on social media platforms on Friday after debuting during the first quarter of Game 4 of the NBA finals on ABC. The 89 million view count includes 19 million views from the NBA Finals’ audience.
The Black Panther teaser currently ranks among the top three most viewed Marvel trailers, surpassing the 61 million views for Captain America: Civil War‘s trailer but placing behind the 136 million views earned by the Thor: Ragnarok trailer.
With Black Panther dominating social media buzz, Marvel Studios will likely be pleased to hear that there is a strong interest in seeing the title character return after he made his debut in Captain America: Civil War.
“Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the events of “Captain America: Civil War,” returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, the film stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Sterling K. Brown, Andy Serkis and John Kan.
Black Panther will be released in theaters on February 16, 2018.
