Black Widow star David Harbour believes that there are so many possibilities for the Red Guardian in the MCU.
Marvel Studios’ newest film Black Widow introduced audiences to some integral members in Natasha Romanoff’s life. One of them was Alexei Shostakov AKA Red Guardian, who served as a father figure to her in childhood. Red Guardian is the Russian Super Soldier counterpart to Steve Rogers AKA Captain America, whom he claims to have fought in the 1980s.
While speaking with Variety, Red Guardian actor David Harbour discussed that there are many possibilities with the character, expressing a desire to return to the MCU after Black Widow at some point in time:
“They don’t let you say these things. I would love for there to be more Red Guardian, and I would love for you guys to love for there to be more Red Guardian because that always helps the cause, I love the character, there’s so many things you could do with him. There’s this gap of 25 years where we don’t know who was he, what is his version of events as opposed to the actual version of events?”
David Harbour’s Red Guardian was praised by critics and audiences alike, with many citing his comic relief role as a massive highlight of Black Widow. In particular, his dynamic with Natasha, Yelena and Melina was beloved. Here’s hoping we get to see more of the character in future installments.
