Black Widow and Hawkeye star Florence Pugh is in talks to join Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two.
The first Dune film featured a large cast of characters with many notable stars. Anyone who has read the book, however, can tell you that many characters were left out. This included characters like Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Emperor Shaddam IV, and his daughter Princess Irulan. This, however, will change in Part Two.
The upcoming film is currently still casting the roles of the Emperor and Feyd-Rautha but it may have already found its princess. According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Black Widow star Florence Pugh is in talks for the role. Over the past five years, the actress has steadily been making a name for herself with roles in films like Midsommar, The Outlaw King, and Little Women. Last year, she starred alongside Scarlett Johansson in Black Widow and seems set to be a main member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now it seems that the actress has the Dune franchise in mind as well.
In the novels, Princess Irulan is the daughter of Emperor Shaddam IV and plays a critical role in the events of the first novel, its sequel Dune Messiah, and Children of Dune. The role was previously played by Virginia Madsen in the 1984 David Lynch film and by Julie Cox in the two Sci-Fi Channel Dune miniseries. It is currently unknown how big of a role she will have in the upcoming film.
Here is the synopsis for Dune:
Set in the distant future, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides whose family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, control of Arrakis is highly contested among the noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of Arrakis.
Denis Villeneuve directed Dune from a script he co-wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. The film stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, and David Dastmalchian.
Dune is now available on home media formats, with Part Two hitting theaters on October 20, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the upcoming film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
