Warner Bros. has released Blade Runner Black Out 2022, an anime prequel to Blade Runner 2049, the long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic.
2049 picks up thirty years after the events of the first film following LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling) after he discovers a terrible secret that could send what is left of society into chaos prompting him to go on a search for Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) who has been missing since we saw him escape with the replicant Rachel (Sean Young).
Black Out 2022 is directed by Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo). The short film takes place three years after the events of the original and serves to bridge the gap between the original classic and the upcoming sequel. You can check it out below.
Blade Runner 2049 is directed by Denis Villeneuve. The film stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, with Dave Bautista and Jared Leto. Here’s the official synopsis:
Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos.
