Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of The Lego Batman Movie and it appears that the anticipation will translate into box office success this pre-Valentines Day weekend. According to The Hollywood Reporter, tracking indicates that The Lego Batman Movie will take the top spot this weekend opposite fellow sequels Fifty Shades Darker and John Wick: Chapter 2.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that The Lego Batman Movie is on track to gross above $60 million, with some observers predicting the animated film will could come close to or even surpass $70 million. This would put the film roughly on par with the opening weekend gross of Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s The Lego Movie, in which the Lego version of the Caped Crusader made his debut.
Fifty Shades Darker is projected to earn between $30 million and $40 million, well below the $85 million debut of Fifty Shades of Grey, while John Wick: Chapter 2 is on track to surpass the first films $14.4 million opening weekend gross with roughly $20 million.
