‘The Sandman’ Star Boyd Holbrook Reveals The Iconic Batman Villain He Wants To Play

The Corinthian actor has his eye on Gotham City.

Boyd Holbrook The Sandman Corinthian DC Batman The Joker

Boyd Holbrook, who appears in Netflix’s The Sandman as the Corinthian, has revealed which member of Batman’s rogues gallery he would like to play.

The Sandman adapts the critically acclaimed comic book of the same name by Neil Gaiman. The comic series was originally published by DC and even featured classic DC characters such as Batman and Martian Manhunter in supporting roles in early issues.

While the Netflix series does not take place in the DC Universe, Boyd Holbrook is eager to face off with the Dark Knight at some point in his acting career.

Boyd Holbrook’s DC Dream Role

In a recent interview with Men’s Health, Boyd Holbrook – who also appeared as Donald Pierce in Logan – was asked if there were any other comic book characters he would like to play. There was one name the actor mentioned – the Joker.

Holbrook picked up on the frequent reinventions the Joker has undergone as various actors have taken on the role in recent years – since 2008, the Clown Prince of Crime has been played by Heath Ledger, Jared Leto, Joaquin Phoenix and Barry Keoghan on the big screen alone.

Speaking about potentially playing Batman’s greatest enemy, the Sandman star said:

“I just really want to play characters that are foreign to me. Selfishly, because that’s where I get to get my point of view on a different culture, or a different perspective that’s someone else’s, that’s not mine. I feel like The Sandman is pretty high on my bar. I’m never the kind of guy to be closed-minded like I’d never do that, I’d never do that.

“It really depends. I mean, I think now that we’re talking, the Joker… that character seems to be endlessly reincarnated in an interesting way. Sometimes the anchor is fun, but usually those secondary characters are really great to play. There are just more keys on the keyboard.”

With Logan and now The Sandman already under his belt, Boyd Holbrook has established he knows his way around a good comic book villain. Given how often the Joker is reimagined for live action, Holbrook may be a good candidate for a future version of Batman’s arch-enemy.

Here is the new synopsis for Netflix’s The Sandman:

There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way.

The series stars Tom Sturridge, Gwendoline Christie, Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Jenna Coleman, Joely Richardson, David Thewlis, Stephen Fry, Patton Oswalt, and Mark Hamill.
