The first official TV spot for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has been revealed. Our next adventure in a galaxy far, far away was the center of attention at last month’s Star Wars Celebration in Europe. Although many expected LucasFilm to release the newest trailer at the event, all that was shown was a brand new featurette exploring the production of the film while an exclusive sizzle reel was also screened for fans at the convention – which eventually leaked online after someone shot the footage on their own personal camera.
Unfortunately, there isn’t any new footage that we haven’t seen previously, but it’s still exciting to see more promotional footage for Rogue One, especially since LucasFilm needs to really let the word out for the more casual Star Wars fans who may still be a bit confused about this not being Episode VIII (which will be released on December 15, 2017). The marketing campaign needs to epitomize the fact that this is a much different movie than the official Star Wars saga films have shown us.
What do you guys think of this TV spot? Are you excited to see what the next trailer will bring? I have a feeling that since Darth Vader appeared on the sizzle reel from Star Wars Celebration (or at least you hear his breathing), it seems inevitable that his presence will be hinted at in the next trailer – to further nail onto people’s consciousness that this is a film that takes place before Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
Directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whittaker, and Alan Tudyk, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story comes to a galaxy near you on December 16.
