Brec Bassinger’s Stargirl has been renewed for season 3 by The CW ahead of the second season’s premiere.

Stargirl has had an interesting journey so far, originally debuting on the DC Universe app before WarnerMedia decided to shift all the streaming service’s programming over to both HBO Max and The CW. The second season of the Brec Bassinger show must’ve impressed the studio executives, because as per Deadline, Stargirl has already been renewed ahead of its season 2 premiere later this year.

So yes, that means Brec Bassinger will return for Stargirl season 3 along with the rest of the new Justice Society of America. The second season will introduce the villain Eclipso, played by Nick Tarabay, but it’s not clear what the character’s intentions for Stargirl and her friends will be. Because the series will air on The CW, it’ll be interested to see whether it’s folded into the rest of the  Arrowverse in a future crossover, since the JSA were glimpsed during Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Here is the official synopsis for DC’s Stargirl:

‘DC’s Stargirl’ follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (series star Brec Bassinger, “Bella and the Bulldogs,” “School of Rock,” “The Goldbergs”) as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series. The series focuses on the character that started creator Geoff Johns’ career as a comic book writer when he created her in 1999, lovingly inspired by his late sister who was killed in a 1996 plane crash.

Stargirl stars Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore, Joel McHale as Starman, Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan, and Meg DeLacy as Cindy Burman. The series also stars Amy Smart, Trae Romano, Cameron Gellman, Yvette Monreal, Anjelika Washington, Meg DeLacy, Neil Jackson, Jake Austin Walker, Christopher James Baker, and Hunter Sansone. Geoff Johns wrote and executive produced the 13-episode first season, with Sarah Schechter, Arrowverse boss Greg Berlanti serving as executive producers on the series.
