Hardcore ‘Doctor Strange‘ and ‘Runaways‘ fans will no doubt be familiar with the name ‘Brother Voodoo‘. However, mainstream audiences might not be aware of the other mystical character that at one time took over the Sorcerer Supreme role for a while. In a prequel comic, Daniel Drumm and Tina Minoru were name dropped, and simultaneously teased the mystic Brother Voodoo and leader of the Runaways, Sister Grimm. Kevin Feige went on to clarify the rumours that Marvel were sowing seeds for more characters with their iconic easter eggs.
“Drumm, you do hear the name in the movie. That’s how we always build the universe. There are so many characters in the books, that if we have the need for a person to be in this place at this time and have a line, or have no lines, we still want it to be someone. Often times, that’s how the names come about. The names that we pull usually are the ones that are relatively top of mind or have been amongst characters that we’ve thought about, like the Runaways for a long time. I would call that an Easter egg that most people won’t even see.”
He does mention that they’ve been thinking of the Runaways for a long time. It’s certainly an interesting choice of live-action adaptations that’s for sure. Whilst it sounds like we won’t end up seeing Brother Voodoo or Sister Grimm in ‘Doctor Strange‘, they surely exist in this world somewhere. Marvel are clearly embracing the dark and mystical, especially with the appearance of Ghost Rider on the current season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mads Mikkelsen, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Tilda Swinton and is directed by Scott Derrickson
‘Doctor Strange’ comes to the US on the 14th November.
