While 20th Century Fox is looking to expand their cinematic universe on the big screen with a number of properties, they’ll also be doing so on the small screen starting this year with Noah Hawley’s upcoming Legion series. Additionally, they also have Hellfire in development at Fox as well but details regarding this project are being kept under wraps for the time being.
Director Bryan Singer, who has been with the X-Men universe from the start, will also act as an executive producer on both of these upcoming series. While speaking with Variety, Singer commented on the potential for growing the brand & further exploring the universe with these television properties.
I think the underbelly [could be explored]. There’s always something interesting about a school that’s got a military aspect beneath its classrooms. Is there another layer to all of that? Is there another layer to the Hellfire Club? The idea of, ‘Who’s running the world?’ — that’s something that was touched upon in ‘First Class’ but has yet to be fully explored. It just has to be explored in a very gentle, methodical way. And I’ve seen it go haywire. I’m not going to be specific where I believe it has. The audience will tell you. But when it’s done right, it all can connect.
While I can’t get too pumped up about Hellfire at the moment due to knowing exactly nothing about it, Legion is definitely something I’m very excited about. With the cast they’ve assembled and Noah Hawley as the series showrunner, I’ve got a good feeling about that one.
