With the Transformers franchise bringing its sixth film to theaters this month with Bumblebee, Paramount has released two new clips to remind us that there are still some surprises in store for everyone’s favorite robots in disguise.

The latest clips from Bumblebee’s solo adventure which made their debut on io9 reveal more than meets the eye about two new Decepticons, Shatter and Dropkick, voiced by Angela Bassett and Justin Theroux respectively. These bots feature a concept not yet seen in the Transformers franchise that has been pulled directly from the Generation 1 toy line, called Triple Changers.

What makes triple changers such an interesting concept for the big screen is their ability to transform between a robot form and two distinct vehicle modes. The clip from the upcoming prequel film, based in the 1980’s, introduces the two as they transform from their aircraft modes to cars, and finally to robot mode in order to begrudgingly meet with a squad of humans, led by WWE Superstar John Cena.

In an exclusive featurette that accompanied the newly released clip, the cast and crew offer a glimpse of what makes these two dynamic Decepticons such a great addition to the franchise. “These two Decepticons are the baddest of the bad asses,” added Cena, “I loved everything about it.”

Will audiences agree? One thing is for sure, franchise fans will be treated to a punch of nostalgia that has never been seen in a live action Transformers film until now.

Directed by Travis Knight from a script written by Christina Hodson, the film stars Hailee Steinfeld, Pamela Adlon, John Cena, Stephen Schneider, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Jason Ian Drucker, Kenneth Choi, Ricardo Hoyos, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, and Grace Dzienny.

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

Bumblebee will be released in theaters on December 21, 2018.
