The Flash star Candice Patton has opened up about a plot hole in the sixth season of the Arrowverse series.

While many fans are still disappointed that Grant Gustin’s The Flash season six was cut short due to the ongoing pandemic, Iris West actress Candice Patton hopes that a plothole from earlier on in the season will be addressed in the future. Patton recently spoke to TVLine and was asked about the scene where Nash Wells scans her and finds Eternium particles around Iris, but that detail was never picked up on as the season progressed. Since the last few episodes of the season weren’t finished, it’s possible the plot point was included there, but for now it’s not clear.

Since the Eternium particles were found near a manhole cover and later the Monitor’s lair, it’s possible the reference was just a way of throwing fans off. But when Candice Patton was asked about the moment, she explained that she doesn’t have an answer but that she thought it was cool. The Flash star also noted that she hopes to revisit that detail and hopefully uncover a larger plot or character arc for Iris. Although since she’s been trapped in the Mirrorverse for quite some time, it’s possible the writers could tie the two points together somehow. Unfortunately fans will have to wait until 2021 for the series to return.

“That’s a great question. I remember shooting that and thinking, ‘This is cool! What does this mean, if it means anything?’ And I don’t have an answer for that, so it will be interesting to see if we revisit that and see what that little nod was about.”

Here’s the official synopsis for Grant Gustin’s The Flash season seven:

Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) lived a normal life as a perpetually tardy C.S.I. in the Central City Police Department. Barry’s life changed forever when the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator exploded, creating a dark-matter lightning storm that struck Barry, bestowing him with superspeed and making him the fastest man alive — The Flash. After a thrilling cliffhanger last season which saw the new Mirror Master (Efrat Dor) victorious and still-at-large in Central City, The Flash must regroup in order to stop her and find a way to make contact with his missing wife, Iris West-Allen (Candice Patton).

With help from the rest of Team Flash, which includes superheroes Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), Ralph Dibny (Hartley Sawyer), and Nash Wells (Tom Cavanagh), as well as the Flash’s adoptive father Joe West (Jesse L. Martin), Meta-Attorney Cecile Horton (Danielle Nicolet), tough cub reporter Allegra Garcia (Kayla Compton) and brilliant tech-nerd Chester P. Runk (Brandon McKnight)… Flash will ultimately defeat Mirror Master. But in doing so, he’ll also unleash an even more powerful and devastating threat on Central City: one that threatens to tear his team—and his marriage—apart.

The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, Candice Patton as Iris West, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow / Killer Frost, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon / Vibe, Tom Cavanagh as Harrison Wells, Jesse L. Martin as Joe West, and Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton.

The Flash will return on The CW in 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding The Flash and Candice Patton and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content.
