The massive airport battle in Captain America: Civil War featured a bunch of amazing fights between the two opposing teams, but we never got to see one between Captain America and Black Widow. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have previously stated that they were thinking about adding one more brief fight scene to the sequence featuring the two heroes going toe-to-toe, but they ultimately decided against it.
That’s pretty much all that we knew about the scene that didn’t make it into the movie, but thanks to an animatic by storyboard artist Darrin Denlinger, we now have a rough idea as to how it would have played out. You can check out the animatic below, as well as two other ones that were created for the movie with more cut footage.
“Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.”
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Captain America: Civil War stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, Tom Holland and many more. The movie is currently playing in theaters everywhere.
